Take charge in the New Year!

Success in any business seldom happens overnight. It’s a journey and one of the fundamentals of beginning any journey in life and in business is to establish a starting point, a point you can measure from and a point from which a course can be plotted to a desired destination. In essence, it’s about planning.

Many business owners are reactive, that is they react to shifts in the market, the demands at hand and often profitability is in the lap of the Gods. They fail to plan. Successful businesses owners on the other hand establish objectives or big picture goals for their life and their business. They’re proactive by nature, they’re in control, they drive change and they know exactly what they want and how to achieve it.

Strategic objectives or big picture goals are your compass in life and in business. They keep you inspired and help you stay on track to reaching your intended destination.

So, where do you start?

Before starting your journey, determine your destination and write it down. Be specific about what you want out of life and the lifestyle you want to lead. The devil is in the detail.

Remember that your business is, in essence, the way in which you fund your lifestyle. That’s why you should first look at your desired lifestyle outcomes and once clear about these, you’ll find it easier to create relevant business objectives that will align to your lifestyle goals.
